One of the things that I didn’t expect when venturing into the Hunter Valley was to find such great breweries nested amongst the exquisite wineries that are throughout the Hunter Valley region. On the Friday we had been to Blue Tongue Brewery which was great to visit and offered up some great varieties of beer, and then on the Saturday we were checking out another great brewery, Potters Brewery on Wine Country Drive Nulkaba.

The first thing I noticed when I walked into potters, is the mere size of the place. Not just the establishment itself, but also the grassed areas that surround it. Having children that love to run around and are full of energy, this was a great opportunity to burn off some energy before the Easter Bunny payed them a visit the next morning. The entire establishment had quite a few people there already and it was just lunch time. Walking through the beer garden there was only a few seats left, and the inside restaurant area was nearly packed to capacity.

First impressions were that it would be a great place to spend an afternoon.

We made our way to the outside area, where we managed to find a table. Beautiful day for a meal outside, and a couple of lunch time beers. This is great. Right next to us, is an enclosed children’s playground, which they immediately run inside of, and we can see them clearly from where we are at the table, which makes us feel that they are very safe in their surroundings. We venture inside to order a couple of beers, and we find that the variety that they have is quite amazing. Many of the beers on tap are brewed there at the brewery by Potters themselves.(I didn’t notice any other beers, but I’m assuming they did have other’s but I was focused on the brewery’s self produced beer.) The girl behind the bar, was very pleasant and friendly, which is what everyone likes to see at a bar, there’s nothing worse than sour people behind the bar. We ask what is good to have, and she recommends the chocolate porter which has won awards and is their signature beer. She gives us a small taste, and also we try out the banana beer, which was also quite refreshing. Just as we’ve ordered our beers, she mentions that we should try the Oyster Stout. Amazing, this brewery has everything.

After we get the beers, we sit outside and browse the menu and find that they have a great variety of foods there. We order the meals, and they come out quickly and everyone is happy with their meals, with both the size and taste being of good standards.

The children run around, and have more fun on the grass, and do some coloring in at the table, which they always love to do.

We notice that they have a bocce field which you can hire the balls for and have a game with your family and friends.  This always makes for a great day especially while your enjoying a beer with your friends and have the children enjoying themselves in the vast grassed area.

After lunch we had to leave quite quickly, and on the way out we walked through the brewery and looked at the brewing equipment which was great to look at. They had the different ranges of beers for sale from within here, as well, which you could take away with you so you can enjoy the beers of the brewery in the comfort of your own home too.

We notice that they also have a day spa and my wife is a bit disappointed that she wasn’t able to indulge in a nice relaxing massage therapy, however maybe next time she may enjoy the indulgence, whilst I try a wider range of Potter’s brewery’s fine beers.
